Website script & company identification

How company identification works

What happens between a page view and a named company: filters, lookups, caching, credits and privacy.

IntentBid identifies companies, not people. Here is the full path of a visit.

Step by step

  1. Page view. The script sends the page, the referrer and campaign parameters (UTM, oppref, gclid, li_fat_id).
  2. Filters, for free. We drop bots and crawlers, private and excluded IPs, and pages on domains that aren't yours.
  3. Worth a lookup? Ad clicks and AI-answer visits are looked up straight away. Other single-page visits wait until a second page or 15 seconds on the page, because most one-page bounces aren't buyers.
  4. Network check, for free. Home broadband, mobile networks and cloud servers are recognised and skipped. No credit is used.
  5. Company lookup. For business networks we ask our identification sources, cheapest first, which company owns the network.
  6. Cache. The answer is cached for 30 days, so the same office never costs twice in that time.
  7. Company record. The company appears with its pages, source, score and stage. A new company in the period uses 5 credits.

Privacy by design

  • No cookies and no fingerprinting; browsers with Global Privacy Control are not tracked.
  • The plain IP address is never stored. It is kept encrypted for at most 24 hours while a lookup is pending, then deleted.
  • We never try to identify individuals.

How accurate it is

Identification works for visits from company networks. Visitors working from home, on mobile data or behind a VPN can't be linked to a company by anyone. That is why All visits by source shows every visit, with or without a company.
