Set daily account caps on a list
Open a target account list, audience or identified visitors and set a daily LinkedIn impression cap next to each company, once, for every campaign that reaches it. How caps by list, campaign caps and defaults work together.
Account caps let you set a daily frequency cap next to every company of a list: how many LinkedIn impressions that company may get per day, all its people summed. You set it once on the list, and every LinkedIn campaign that reaches the company uses it. Open it from LinkedIn Ads → Account caps or Audiences → Account caps.
For how the cap itself works (the 3-hourly checks, LinkedIn's 12–24 hour delay and the top-100 limit), see Frequency cap per account on LinkedIn.
Which cap applies
A company can have a cap in three places. The most specific one wins:
| Order | Where it's set | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Inside a campaign, next to the company | That campaign only |
| 2 | Account caps, on a list | Every campaign that reaches the company |
| 3 | The campaign's default (impressions per account a day) | Every company without either of the above |
So a key account can have 20 a day from Account caps, a test campaign can lower it to 5 for itself, and every other company in the campaign uses the campaign's default.
Set caps on a list
- Open Account caps.
- Pick a List: a list from Account Finder or one you uploaded (TAL · …), a saved audience, or Pixel · identified visitors. The number after each list is how many companies it has.
- Type a Daily cap (impressions) next to any company. Leave it empty to use the campaign's default.
- Click Save caps. The button shows how many caps you changed.
The line next to the button shows how many companies in the list have their own cap.
Set caps for many companies at once
- Use Find a company… to narrow the list, or leave it empty for all.
- Type a number in Daily cap.
- Click Set for the N listed. Every company currently shown gets that cap.
- Click Save caps.
Clear the listed empties the caps of the companies shown, so they go back to the campaign's default.
Caps by tier: a simple setup
Most programs don't need a different cap for every company. Set them by tier:
| Tier | Typical daily cap | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 (top accounts) | 15–25 | Bigger buying committees, more budget on purpose |
| Tier 2 | 8–12 | Steady presence |
| Tier 3 / long tail | 3–5 | Keep them aware without taking budget from tier 1 and 2 |
If your tiers are separate lists, open each one and use Set for the N listed. If they're in one list, filter by name or set the top accounts one by one, then set the rest with the default.
Check after a week in the campaign's Frequency cap per account (daily) section: if most tier-3 accounts hit their cap before midday, the cap is doing its job; if no tier-1 account ever reaches its cap, it isn't limiting anything.
0 and empty
- Empty means the campaign's default applies.
- 0 means never show ads to this company. It works, but for customers, competitors or partners use Exclusions instead: the reason is clear and it applies to every campaign.
Big lists
A LinkedIn campaign targets at most 100 companies by their company page, and LinkedIn reports at most the top 100 companies per ad per day, so a company outside the top 100 isn't counted that day and can't be capped. When you start a LinkedIn campaign from a list of more than 100 companies, IntentBid splits it into up to 5 campaigns of 100 in one campaign group, with the daily budget shared between them. The caps you set here follow each company into whichever campaign it lands in.
FAQ
Do caps set here change running campaigns?
Yes. Every LinkedIn campaign that reaches the company uses the cap from the next check, unless the campaign has its own cap for that company.
Can I cap spend instead of impressions?
Account caps are in impressions. A spend cap per account per day can be set inside a campaign, in its Frequency cap per account step.
Why did a company go over its cap?
LinkedIn reports companies 12–24 hours late, so impressions in that gap still count. A company over its cap rests the next day. Treat the cap as a daily average.
Do caps work for ChatGPT Ads?
No. ChatGPT Ads don't target or report by company. Caps are for LinkedIn.
